It's All About The Lips

8.04.2017

I used to find shopping for make up quite a chore and I would tend to stick to using the same products. However, over the last year or so, I've tried experimenting a lot more with different brands and products and now I'm always finding an excuse to buy something new to try. Through doing this, I've kind of found my own style as I've learned which colours suit my skin type and I now feel so much more comfortable buying new products and I'm starting to really enjoy trying out new things. One make up product I LOVE shopping for is lipstick. I've fallen in love with matte lip products and I've been on hunt for the perfect one for months and months. I almost never wear pink or red shades. Not because they don't suit me because the majority of them do. But my absolute favourite lip shades tend to be dark colours, hence why I love Autumn and Winter so much because those tend to be the seasons where you can get away with wearing a dark lip and have the ability to pull it off! Having said that, I've recently decided that I don't actually care what others think and I've been reaching for my darker lip products during the Spring and Summer months too. I currently have 3 lip products that I am completely in love with at the moment. So, I'll be chatting about those in this post (hopefully not too much).

1. Bare Minerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolour.

Shade: Bo$$
Price: £17.00

If I'm not wearing a dark lip, I'll almost always be wearing a nude. One that's not too pinky but has slightly brown undertones. I was watching a Zoella Vlog months ago (I'm talking February maybe?) and she was wearing this matte liquid lipstick that was in the exact colour that I had been searing for. It was by the brand Bare Minerals and despite never purchasing anything from that brand before, I'd heard so many wonderful reviews that I just had to try it out. It arrived a few days later and I'm not kidding when I tell you that this is practically the only thing I've worn on my lips since I bought it. The consistency is beautiful and it's so easy to apply. It doesn't feel like you've got anything on your lips and the best bit? IT SMELLS LIKE VANILLA. I don't know whether it's supposed to but if I didn't enjoy wearing it so much, I'd be eating it that's for sure. Plus, it lasts for so long and I only really have to reapply it once or twice during the day, depending on what I'm doing etc. Matte liquid lipsticks can be so difficult to get just right. I've bought some before and they haven't lasted very long, they're extremely patchy or they just feel sticky and don't feel very nice on. This one by Bare Minerals though is PERFECT. I swear down by this and if I could only wear one make up product for the rest of my life, this would be it. The only criticism I have is that there isn't a huge variety of colours to choose from. I'd buy them all but this is the only shade that I absolutely loved. I got the shade 'BO$$' and it's just dreamy. 10/10 would recommend.

2. Too Faced Melted Matte Lipstick

Shade: Naughty by Nature
Price: £19.00

The second one I'm going to ramble on about is also a liquid lipstick and it's by one of my favourite brands 'Too Faced.' I'd bought products from that brand before so I felt very comfortable purchasing this online. I haven't had this one too long to give it a full review but from what I have experienced so far, it's already a new favourite of mine. It is so long lasting you wouldn't believe. One thing I struggle with when trying liquid lipsticks is that they can often look very patchy once dried, especially the darker shades because it's often more noticeable. But I haven't experienced that problem with this one. It is a much thicker consistency compared to the Bare Minerals one but I honestly don't mind that because it looks incredible when it's on. I got the shade 'Naughty by Nature' which is a deep brown. Even for me, this one was a little out of my comfort zone because I'm very loyal to my purple and dark berry shades but I absolutely love it. There are so many shades to choose from and they've also got different types of matte lipsticks which is amazing. I'm definitely tempted to get another colour!

3. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution

Shade: Glastonberry
Price: £24.00

Last but by no means least is this beauty from the well known and much loved brand Charlotte Tilbury. This is the first thing I'd purchased from this brand and I am yet to be disappointed. I'd seen quite a few people rave about these lipsticks and I was keen to try. They're matte which is perfect but there are other lipsticks by Charlotte Tilbury that aren't matte so there is something for everyone. There were a couple of shades I had my eye on but in the end I got 'Glastonberry' which is the ultimate dark berry colour and is absolutely perfect for the colder seasons. Ever since my love for liquid lipsticks began, I thought I'd struggle finding a lipstick that I could love just as much. However, this one is brilliant. It isn't as long lasting as the other two that I've mentioned but the colour is stunning and it's super easy to apply. I do probably take a little longer than the average person applying a dark lip because I can be quite messy. One thing to mention with this lipstick, and for all of the products by Charlotte Tilbury, is how gorgeous the packaging is. I could never lose it in my bag because the gold is simply stunning and makes the product feel slightly more special to use.

This post was a little longer than I was intending it to be so thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this one as it is a little different to my usual kinda posts. I'm hoping to do more beauty and skincare related posts in the future so let me know if you'd like that and also the kind of things would you like to see on here!

Getting To Know Me | Q&A

8.02.2017

I've seen lots of people doing Q&A's on their blog and thought it would be a good idea and make for a potentially interesting post, even though I'm not in the slightest bit interesting! I've selected some random questions that I came across online and thought I'd answer so that those who'd like to can get to know me a little better. So, here we go...

1. Are you a morning or night person?
This is a difficult one because I'm actually both?! Is that even possible?! It always depends on my mood and the time of year. I need a good nights sleep otherwise I'm so grumpy. If I had to choose one, it would be a morning person. I actually prefer getting up earlier because I can get more done in the day and I always feel so much better when I'm being productive.

2. Describe yourself in 5 words.
Nostalgic. Determined. Sentimental. Caring. Optimistic.

3. Any guilty pleasures?
I never know what to class as a 'guilty pleasure' but I'm sure I've got loads. Hmmm. Homeware shopping is a biggie. I absolutely LOVE anything homeware and interior related. I could spend all day watching videos or reading blog posts about people decorating their new place etc. Heaven. I'm also guilty of watching YouTube videos in the bath even though I keep telling myself it's meant to be 'relaxing.' I make a playlist on YouTube and before I know it, 2 hours have passed. I'm also guilty of doing a cheeky late night shopping spree every now and then. I really need to start saving!!

4. Any tattoos or piercings?
No piercings but I've got 2 tattoos!

5. If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
New Zealand, China, Germany, Amsterdam, Japan, Canada?? Everywhere. I want to go EVERYWHERE.

6. Summer or Winter?
Winter. Winter is here (GAME OF THRONES FANS WHERE YOU AT?!?!) Definitely winter. I really, really don't like summer. I wish I did but I just love the coziness too much. I think it's mainly because I have a skin condition which means I react to even the slightest bit of heat which sucks. Autumn is my favourite time of year overall but I'd choose winter over summer any day!

7. What is your favourite drink?
Tea. Oh my goodness. And not just normal tea but so many different kinds of tea. I'm doing a blog post about my favourite teas later this year so keep your eyes peeled for that. I also love iced teas, lemonade and I'm starting to really enjoy the odd glass of wine, how adventurous.

8. What's your go to outfit?
Anything with stripes is great with me. I love stripes and I practically live in them throughout the year. I usually wear a pinafore dress or my fave Topshop Jamie jeans with my Vans or Doc Martens. My absolute go to outfit, rain or shine. I'm also a sucker for oversized sweaters/jumpers, but, who isn't???

9. Favourite blogs?
I've got so many blogs that I absolutely adore. There is something about reading another person's blog that I find so enrapturing. Whether it's because I don't have a clue what I'm doing with my life and I'm desperately seeking something to empathize with or I'm just searching for some entertainment or a distraction, I could easily spend my day reading what someone else has written. I think a person's blog can be so raw, especially if there are some personal stories on there. You're allowing the internet to read your thoughts and share your experiences and that can often be a little daunting, especially if you're like me and you're insecure about your style of writing. I've gone off topic slightly but I'll link some of my favourite blogs down below:

10. Can you cook?
I'd like to think that I can cook. I know it's lazy but I always feel like I haven't got the time to spend ages cooking my favourite meals. I do enjoy it but I definitely have to be inspired and motivated first. I need to start experimenting more, especially since it's nearly been a year since I went pescatarian! One of my favourite things to cook at the moment is a king prawn stir fry with hoisin sauce. It's the most delicious thing in the world and it takes me around 10 minutes to do! Genius.

13. Are you a tidy or messy person?
Tidy...ish. I'm not a messy person but I can occasionally let things get on top of me if I'm not careful.

13. What are the small things that make your day better?
Tea. Bath. Reading. Netflix. Good food. Great company. Rain. Coziness. Sleeeeeep.

14. Are you always early or late?
Early. If I am ever late for anything then something has clearly gone very wrong. Honestly, being close to late for something freaks me out so much, yikes.

15. What was the last film you saw?
The last new film that I saw was Legally Blonde. I know, I know. I'm 18 and I've only just seen it. It's a crime. I watched it a few days ago at around two in the morning. It made me laugh out loud and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll definitely be putting it on again when I'm having a bit of a down day. Plus, Reese Witherspoon is incredible!

16. Biggest fear?
Losing everyone I love or waking up one day and nobody knowing who I am. That kinda thing.

17. What did you do for your last birthday?
It was my 18th back in March and I had a family get together, went bowling with my friends and I went to see Andrew Scott's Hamlet in London! A pretty great weekend overall!

18. Do you believe in love at first sight?
Nope. Sorry to be a downer but I think you've got to get to know someone to fall in love with them surely. I know I do anyway. Of course I can look at someone and think they're the most gorgeous person I've ever seen but they could have the personality of a wet sock ya know. I will admit though that I do get attached to people very quickly. So, give it a week and I'm probably already planning on moving in with them. Just kidding... Or am I???

19. Favourite film?
Without a doubt the easiest question I'll ever answer - THE IMITATION GAME. I'm still debating on whether to write a blog post on my favourite films so I won't ramble on too much here. I can't express my love for this film enough. The casting is spot on and the acting is nothing short of outstanding. The cinematography is what dreams are made of and the story broke my heart to smithereens. The film taught me a lot about a very important era in British History, specifically about a man named Alan Turing. It's phenomenal and I'll still be praising it when I'm old.  I also adore the Harry Potter films but I never acknowledge them as being my faves because I watch them like I breathe oxygen, ya know??

20. What was the name of your first pet?
Bambi, after the film. It was my favourite film when I was a kid and my parents surprised me on my birthday once with a rabbit. I can't remember which birthday, I was very young. I'm aware that Bambi is the name of the fawn and the rabbit was called Thumper but I just loved that name.

Anyway, that's it for now otherwise this post will go on forever. I hope you enjoyed this one. It's a little different and like I said earlier, I'm not an interesting person but if you learned something new about me today then SUCCESS. I hope you're having a lovely day.

Lots of Love,
Meg X
