Oh Hello, London

7.04.2016

On the 2nd July, 2016, I took a trip to my favourite place - London. The purpose of the trip was to visit a University I am incredibly interested in applying for within the next couple of years. However, after discovering that I had some time to myself, I decided to visit some of my favourite places within the beautiful city.

I went on the London Eye a few years ago and until this day, it is one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had. I was lucky enough to meet an Internet friend here on my most recent trip. It's a very special and meaningful place for me.

Walking along the River Thames in the boiling hot sun was absolute bliss.

Even though I have grown up in the countryside, I have developed an overwhelming love for London and I am incredibly lucky to live close enough so that I can just hop on a train and be in the stunning city within a couple of hours. Despite having anxiety, I have always felt very comfortable in a city and I love being apart of a huge crowd. I take pride in how my confidence has grown over the years, but there are still occasions when all I want to do is hide away from the world. Walking through the magnificent streets of London allows me to feel as though I can present both versions of myself that I'm slowly growing to love. In a big city with large crowds, I can feel small and insignificant, yet at the same time, I feel as though I can be heard and understood.

The history and culture of the city is simply outstanding. I love learning, being adventurous and having new experiences. Being in London has allowed me to grow and it has shaped me into the person I am today. The atmosphere is always absolutely breathtaking and I feel as though I belong somewhere and I have a real place in the world.

Travelling is one of my greatest passions. It turns me into a storyteller and London is by far my favourite chapter. One that I'll continue to re-read and re-write for as long as I possibly can. I first went abroad when I was just 6 months old and I am very fortunate that I travel as often as I do. However, I've come to realise that one of my favourite places, somewhere where I always feel extremely happy and content, is a lot closer to home that I originally once thought. Whether I'm with friends or family, sightseeing or just taking some time to myself, London holds a very special place in my heart.

Being a HUGE fan of Sherlock, it felt like heaven to finally visit some of the well known Setlock locations. We arrived at Speedy's and St Bartholomew's Hospital before 9 o'clock in the morning so the streets were unusually quiet. Despite never seeing them in person before, I felt overwhelmed with familiarity after having watched Sherlock for many years.

I have always seen myself as a spontaneous person. I never like going to the same holiday destination more than once or twice. Partly because I tend to get bored easily, but because I am always super keep to see new things and meet new people, as I feel as though this is how I grow. I continue to be inspired by beautiful things and I'm always finding new and exciting adventures to try. I feel like I could easily spend the rest of my life in London and never get bored. Every single day is completely different from the previous. That's the beauty of it. Around 8 million people live in London, yet each day in London is experienced in 8 million different ways. I try to escape to the city as often as I can. I can't wait to go back with my friend in just three weeks time and be in complete awe of it's natural beauty once again.

As I have always said, from my own experience, a bad day in London is still better than a good day anywhere else.

Lots of love, Megan X
